This is the oldest branch in the county and hosted the first Roscommon Co. Fleadh in
1958. In the meantime it has done so more often than any other branch. 

 

Christmas Session:

The strokestown branch are holding a session on the 27th December. Please see the events page for more information

 

Classes:

Music classes with Bernie Flaherty are held on Thursdays - junior at 7.00p.m. and senior at 8.30p.m. in the Dún Méabh Centre. 

Set Dancing classes are given by Gabrielle Cassidy in the 'Silver Eel' from 9.00p.m. on Tuesdays. 

Singing classes under Pauline Hanley take place in the Boys' and Girls' schools on Fridays. 

 

Sessions are held on special occasions.

 

Siamsa  Luachra

Siamsa Luachra, a weekend of  Music, Song, Dance and Crafts will take place in Strokestown during the St. Patrick’s  Weekend 2007.

On Friday 16th. March from 6 to 8.30p.m. in the Percy French Hotel, there will be workshops featuring Craftwork from Rushes etc. by Patricia Flaherty, formerly of Slieve Bawn Crafts.

                  

On Saturday night there will be several traditional music sessions in town.

 

On Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4p.m. there well be Sean Nós Dancing Workshops in Scoil Mhuire with Gay Cassidy and Edwina Guckian.

 

On Sunday night (8.30p.m) there will be an All-Star Traditional Concert at The Percy French Hotel featuring ;- Strokestown and Elphin Comhaltas junior musicians; John Wynne and Catherine McEvoy; Noel Sweeney, Seán Thompson and friends;  Eamon & Geralding Cotter, (Clare) and Jim McKellop (Antrim)

 

On Monday there will be music workshops in the Hotel from 10a.m. to 1.00p.m. – featuring Catherine McEvoy (concert flute), John Wynne (whistle), Jim McKellop (fiddle).
